Whats new in Your Margaret River Region

Like you, we like to get out and explore the fantastic wineries, breweries and tasty places in the Margaret River region. In the last 12 months new places have opened, or we have found some hidden gems we want to share with you!

The Margaret River Region is quickly growing its reputation as the craft brewing centre of WA. There are now 10 breweries to visit- the newer breweries include The Beer Farm on Gale Road, Black Brewing Co. on Caves Road (previously Duckstein Brewery) and Brewhouse Margaret River (Bussell Highway just outside the Township of Margaret River). Breweries are generally family friendly with playgrounds or open space for the kids to run around in.

Food is another great attraction of the Margaret River Region, with chocolate, cheese, olive oil, nuts, jams, preserves and nearly any other item of delicious delicacy available somewhere! Yallingup Cheese Company is now open and produces a range of artisan, hand crafted cheeses using certified organic jersey milk. Located on Wildwood Road in Yallingup, guests can sample some cheese, or participate in a cheese making class.

Olive oil and its associated products are also well represented in the region- Vasse Virgin offers a variety of food and beauty products all naturally produced with olive oil; Eagle Bay Olives are a small producer with some great olives for eating, and Petra Olive Oil Estate in Yallingup has a new shed door for you to sample the variety of products they produce.

Dotted throughout the region, are some great cafes. A new addition to the scene is The Fat Chef Café in Vasse Newtown. Operated by a husband and wife team, the café is located in a refurbished old cottage in the Vasse Newtown estate. The café offers simple but delicious meals, with breakfast served until 11.30am- a great location to start your day exploring the region!

Many of the wineries also include restaurants, where you can enjoy your favourite style of wine, matched to delicious food. Rustico at Hayshed Hill is one such option, providing guests with the choice of a 6 course degustation menu, a tapas tasting menu, or a traditional menu. The restaurant is family friendly and located just a short drive from the popular Margaret River Chocolate Factory. They also offer cooking classes so you can learn to create a delicious Spanish meal at home.

From Spanish Tapas to Japanese Sushi- Fishbone Wines is another new winery featuring a restaurant providing a Japanese inspired menu. Enjoy a variety of sushi, tempura vegetables or beef Tataki while sipping local wines. The new restaurant is also located just across the road from the Margaret Chocolate Factory on Harman’s Mill Road and offers sushi-to-go as well.
